The thread that holds it all
Every project I sign must leave the place better than it found it.
This isn't an ethical footnote at the bottom of the quote: it's the criterion by which I choose what to do, and has been for twenty years. Environmental sustainability when it's about technology and consumption — the backpack encoders that retired the helicopters were born there. Social sustainability when it's about people — the documentaries on hardship, Mixed Ability rugby, festivals brought into prisons. And economic sustainability, because a project that can't stand on its own has changed nothing.

I'm a director and producer. But creating has never meant only filming: it has meant founding the companies, festivals and communities in which those stories could exist.
Live
Italy's first light broadcast
Our first light broadcast production dates to 2011: the Turin Marathon for RAI. Until then, broadcasting a race that crosses a whole city live took helicopters — huge costs, burned fuel, noise over everyone's heads.
We put the encoders in backpacks. Operators on foot and on motorbikes along the route, signal on bonded cellular uplink, a control room receiving everything in real time. No helicopters. From there the same technology went to London, Sochi, Rio, Brazil.
